The effectiveness of anti-emetic therapy was shown in a study that found low symptom occurrence and high quality of life for patients on highly emetogenic chemotherapy at a Malta hospital. The research work is to be published in the May-June issue of the Hospital Pharmacy Europe journal.

The setting for the study was Sir Paul Boffa Hospital. Nathalie Fenech carried out this work under the supervision of Professor Lilian Azzopardi with the collaboration of Dr Victor Muscat, consultant clinical oncologist as part of her studies in Pharmacy.

The Department of Pharmacy has been carrying out research in this field for 15 years. As part of the project in the area of cancer chemotherapy the department has also published booklets addressed to patients with regard to chemotherapy. These booklets were very well received.

This work would not have been possible without the full collaboration of the staff and patients at Sir Paul Boffa Hospital.
