Lands Department employees and the police this morning swooped on a number of stables in San Gwann which were allegedly built illegally on government land.

The workers, assisted by officers from the Mounted Police section and the Administrative Law Enforcement Unit, are removing some 10 horses and are expected to demolish the stables, which were built mostly of wood.

The owners protested when the officials arrived in to carry out the enforcement action and frantic calls were made to the Lands Department,w ith the owners insisting they were entitled to use the land.

However the workers later moved in and the owner agreed to take the horses elsewhere.
