A court dismissed claims by the owner of a Marsa stable that works on the Maltapost office demolished his stable and injured his racehorse, leading to its death a few months later.

Emanuel Caruana, owner of Twilight Stable, sued C&F Building Contractors, Schembri and Sons Ltd and Maltapost, demanding payment of damages for the death of the horse.

He claimed that his race-winning horse Darim was injured when debris fell on the stable, demolishing it, on September 15, 2004.

The horse died the following January.

The incident was not contested but Maltapost and its contractors denied that the horse had died as a result of what happened that day.

Veterinary experts told the court there was no link between the injury suffered by the horse and its death.

Neither had it been proven that the horse failed to win any races after September 2004 because of the injury it had suffered. The horse, in fact, had a previous injury and it was its age that brought its racing to an end, the experts said.
