Horses danced to music and paraded in their finest pose in the first ever Equestrian Festival, held today at the Marsa racetrack by the Malta Sports Council together with the Malta Racing Club, the Malta Equestrian Federation and the Malta Polo Club.

Visitors could enjoy various equestrian disciplines including racing, jumping, polo and dressage.

Dressage is an ‘Olympic' discipline wherein horse and rider combine to undertake a given ‘test' within the confines of a space measuring 60 x 20 metres. Here poise, grace and elegance are adjudicated together with the level of performance.

Today's programme also featured a gymkhana, where riders raced to complete a set pattern in the shortest time.

A polo match was held in the morning.

Other events included pony racing.
