Honda Motor Co. said yesterday it would cut car output in Japan and Europe by a further 61,000 vehicles, including closing its British factory for two months in February and March, due to slowing sales.

Japan's No.2 automaker said in a statement it would reduce output by 40,000 vehicles at a Japanese factory, bringing planned domestic production to 1.278 million units in the business year to March 31, or down one per cent from last year.

At its UK factory in Swindon, it said it would cut output of 21,000 vehicles, on top of a previously planned reduction of 10,000 units, with plans to close that plant for two months in February and March.
