A 31-year-old homeless Libyan who lives in Malta has been remanded in custody after he pleaded not guilty to stealing painting equipment from a Ford Transit in Paola and handling stolen property.

Police Inspector Jurgen Vella told the court that police on the beat in Hamrun had spotted a car with two Libyans and a Syrian inside. The other Libyan and the Syrian were not involved.

Investigations concluded that Ibrahim Tonsi, who claimed to be living at the YMCA in Valletta, had given the other men a lift so they were not involved in the theft.
