The Housing Authority has announced changes to its repair schemes which include an increase in the maximum grant available.

Homeowners or tenants of privately owned property applying for grants to improve their home will now be eligible for a higher grant than before.

In case of dangerous structures, the grant has been increased by Lm500 to Lm4,000. In the case of sub-standard housing, it has gone up also by Lm500, to Lm3,000.

A new condition that will allow more homes to benefit from these repair grants is that the value of the house must not exceed Lm40,000 before any works are carried out. Previously, this value could not be exceeded by the house plus the cost of works.

Tenants of government-owned property have also been made eligible for the scheme.

In their case, the maximum capital assets of the applicant has been increased by Lm500 to Lm4,500. The value of assets exceeding Lm4,000 will be deducted from the grant.

These changes, together with details about the Housing Authority's schemes, can be found on the authority's website www.housingauthority.com.mt.
