Britain's double Olympic champion Kelly Holmes is hoping to make a comeback in June after a hamstring injury forced her to pull out of the European indoor championships last week.

Holmes, who won the 800 and 1,500 metres at the Athens Games last year, said she would spend six weeks training in South Africa to get fit for the rest of season ahead of the world championships in Helsinki in August.

"My focus for the season is to get to the worlds, it's only fitness that will determine if I win or lose now," Holmes said.

"My injury is actually a lot better, I strained a hamstring over two weeks ago so I pulled out of the European indoors to save myself for the rest of the season."

The Olympian said she was more motivated than ever after winning the 1,000m at the international indoor athletics meeting in Birmingham in February.

"If anything the adrenaline I had for Birmingham that's what's keeping me motivated and is actually what I want," she said.

"Having to pull out of the indoor European Championships did give me that little bit of motivation back again because I started to get that buzz, that stomach feeling and I like that feeling."

Holmes, who was nominated for the Laureus World Sportswoman of the Year award on Tuesday, said she hoped people would see it as recognition for a lifetime's commitment to athletics.

"The commitment I've made now to my athletics is to do well on June 5," she said.

"It's great to be nominated, it would be even better to win."
