Major Hollywood actor Rob Lowe is set to star in ‘Apocalypse Slough’, a TV drama series to be partly shot in Malta, the Malta Film Commission said in a tweet.

According to media reports, he will play a rebellious Catholic priest who takes refuge in a bunker with a variety of other survivors after Earth is hit by a comet.

Among them are an unhinged white supremacist, a germ-phobic cyber-terrorist, a mild-mannered bank manager and an American five-star general.

The series will also be shot in the UK and South Africa.

Film Commissioner Engelbert Grech expressed satisfaction that some of it will be shot in Malta.  “We are proud to have such a high concept new dramedy with such a rich and talented cast filming in Malta. I believe that the new cash rebates and the consistent marketing drive that the Malta Film Commission has put together are bearing fruit,” he said.

The 10-part series will air on Sky1 in the UK and NBC in the UK.
