David and Samantha Cameron were in good company in seeking to name a child after a holiday destination, according to a survey.

The Prime Minister and his wife Samantha Cameron have named their new baby daughter Florence Rose Endellion.

As many as 18,000 parents have chosen to name their children after holiday destinations in the last 10 years, a recent poll by parenting club Bounty found.

Florence, Rio and Paris were the most favoured names, followed by India, Sydney and Lucia.

The New York borough of Brooklyn, chosen by David and Victoria Beckham for their eldest son, also made it into the top 10 of “destination” names.

Another top 10 entry was Devon and other names have included Brighton, Texas and Dublin.

Bounty spokesman Faye Mingo said: “We wanted to take a look at how influenced parents have been by previous trips away when naming their children.

“Our records show that parents are becoming more and more creative with their choices and increasingly inspired by destinations – with children already called Tuscany, Texas, Capri and China already amongst us.”
