Around €1,000 in cash and a number of cheques were stolen in a hold-up at a pharmacy in Żebbuġ yesterday morning.

A hooded man entered the pharmacy brandishing a firearm and demanded money, the police said. The pharmacist – a 41-year-old woman from Sliema – and a 58-year-old woman from Żebbuġ were inside the pharmacy in St Anthony Street.

The thief fled on foot. No one was injured.
