A memorial service is being held at the Maritime Museum in Vittoriosa on Saturday to mark the 69th anniversary of the sinking of HMS Glorious, in which 1,000 sailors perished, including 40 Maltese.

Last year, a commemorative plaque was unveiled by then President Eddie Fenech Adami at the Maritime Museum in memory of the Maltese sailors. The event was organised by the UK-based Glarac Association, which was set up to honour the memory of those who died when the Glorious and two other British destroyers, the Acasta and the Ardent, were sunk by a German warship in June 1940.

Relatives are invited to take part in the commemoration service that starts at 10.30 a.m. For further information call Vincent Zahra on 2182 2499.
