Scale models in minute detail, some representing episodes from Maltese history, are on display at the Aviation Museum in Ta Qali.
The History in Scale exhibition has been mounted by the Society for Scale Modellers against the backdrop of the museum's own aircraft.
The members of the Society for Scale Modellers have gained numerous international awards, the most recent at the Euromilitaire Expo in the UK, World Expo 2008 in Girona, CSMS Catania 2008, MFCA in the U.S.A. and Calenzano 2009.
The Model Expo is an experience of history and art in miniature with exhibits which are the fruit of months of research, construction, detailing, painting and weathering to create perfect replicas at a level of perfection which has to be seen to be appreciated.
The display consists of historical aircraft, ships, armoured vehicles, military dioramas and figurines.
Apart from the gallery of modellers’ masterpieces, the expo this year features an interactive angle to involve visitors in modelling workshops and lectures. Visitors may attend lectures and demonstrations by historian Dr. Stephen C. Spiteri, aviation artist and specialist Mr. Richard J. Caruana and others. For the younger generation there will be a dedicated hands-on model workshop to introduce them to the art of model making.
