An installation made with bicycles in Gdansk shipyard, Poland, yesterday, during the festivities marking the 30th anniversary of the Solidarity Movement. The bicycle was a main means of transport during the 1980 strike when, 30 years ago, Poland was squarely in the global spotlight as a strike spawned Solidarity, the Communist bloc’s first free trade union which later brought down the regime.
