Brad Hindle Deguara is the new Tecnifibre Malta Open champion, winning the title after beating Malta no.1 Mike Fiteni.

The final, played between two of the best players ever to visit Malta, was a display of squash at the highest level. Hindle Deguara, who is 64th in the world rankings and moving up fast, edged out Fiteni by simply wearing him down with his stamina and accurate shots.

His strategy of waiting patiently for an opening before attacking in lightning fast fashion paid dividends as he won with a convincing 3-0 scoreline.

Hindle Deguara became eligible to play for Malta only this month and is scheduled to represent the country in the forthcoming Commonwealth Games.

The Ladies Open was won by the evergreen Theresa Brousson who beat Johanna Rizzo 3-1 in a game that had everyone present on the edge of their seats.

Brousson continues to dominate the local squash scene and impress with her pinpoint accurate knicks and drops as Rizzo played determinedly by running down every shot at each end of the court.

Meanwhile, the U-13 Open was won by the upcoming Ryan Rizzo. Second place went to Zach Farrugia. Both players form part of the Elite Junior Team.

Colette Sultana, ranked in the top 40 in the U-15 category in Europe, won the U-15 Open with relative ease.

Jean Bernard Balzan was the runner-up.

A record 75 participants, including 23 juniors, took part in this year's open.

Both A and B categories were held in all competitions, allowing advanced players and intermediates enough playing time during this four-day tournament which was a success for Malta Squash and the game in general.
