Workers who receive less than €300 a week and opt to follow training will be given an extra €25 per week by the Government, Finance Minister Tonio Fenech said in the Budget speech this evening.

Furthermore, the Youth Inc scheme for youths aged 16-21 who are not in some educational institution or in employment will be extended for those aged up to 24 as long as they follow training.

The stipend for apprentices is to rise to €95 from the current €86. The Government will continue to pay duties for the employers.

Mr Fenech said that in terms of the 'Active' scheme, unemployed youths who received training for up to 20 hours per week would continue to be paid pro-rata.
