The Education Ministry in a statement this evening said that in some cases the tariffs had been reduced while in others they had been increased. Some of the tariffs had not been reviewed since Heritage Malta was set up in 2003. The increases in some tariffs were necessitated by capital projects and operational costs.

The ministry said that all museums would be open for everyone once a year free of charge. They would also be open for free or at half price for special occasions such as Notte Bianca, Birgu by Candlelight and Notte Gozitano.

All schoolchildren would be allowed two free school visits to museums of their choice per year.

Residents of Malta may also buy a Heritage Malta membership card costing €35 per year for adults, €27 for the elderly and youths and €60 for families, giving them unlimited access to the museums.

There were also packages for those who wished to visit more than one museum.
