The Harmonised Index of Consumer Prices went down by 2.3 per cent last month, when compared to the previous month.

The National Statistics Office said this primarily reflected a decrease of 13.2 per cent in the Restaurants and Hotels Index on account of seasonal price reductions in accommodation services.

Cheaper internet service provision was the main cause behind a decrease of 3.7 per cent in the communication index. The recreation and culture index went down by 1.6 per cent on account of seasonally lower-priced package tours.

Lower airfares caused the transport index to go down by 1.3 per cent. The health index registered a decrease of 0.3 per cent due to a downward move in the price of pharmaceutical products.

The clothing and footwear index went up by 2.2 per cent due to seasonal price increases in garments.

Higher prices for fruit were the main reason behind an increase of 0.8 per cent in the food and non-alcoholic beverages index.

The miscellaneous goods and services index rose by 0.5 per cent on account of an upward movement in the price of jewellery.

The furniture, household equipment and routine maintenance of the house index went up by 0.4 per cent, mostly due to costlier non-durable household goods.

Higher prices for wine caused the alcoholic beverages and tobacco index to edge up by 0.1 per cent.

In November, the 12-month moving average rate of inflation stood at 2.7 per cent, whereas the annual rate of inflation stood at 1.5 per cent.
