Hibernians were back to winning ways when they saw off Marsaxlokk 2-0 in a drab encounter at the National Stadium on Saturday.

Steve Pisani was the catalyst behind the Paolites victory as the Hibs winger grabbed both goals inside the opening 45 minutes.

Hibs took the lead on 17 minutes. Bjorn Kristensen picked Andrew Cohen on the edge of the area and the Hibs forward did well to turn past Patrick Borg and fired a firm drive that was partially blocked by Marsaxlokk goalkeeper Christian Cassar. From the rebound Steve Pisani was on hand to blast the ball home.

Marsaxlokk's response failed to arrive and Hibs struck again four minutes from the break.

Triston Caruana fired in a firm drive that was partially blocked by Cassar and Pisani was again the first to react to fire home the rebound.

On the restart, the match lost much of its intensity with scoring chances few and far between.

Hibs could have added a third on 67 minutes when Clayton Failla unleased a powerful drive that came off the crossbar before the Marsaxlokk defence cleared.

Hibs winger Steve Pisani was voted as the BOV Player of the match.
