HIBERNIANS-2, MOSTA-1

Hibs opened their FA Trophy with a hard-earned 2-1 win over Mosta who finished the match with nine men.

Clayton Failla gave Hibs an early lead when converting a third-minute penalty after Mosta defender Luke Dimech floored Allan Kardech in the box.

Dimech's afternoon took a turn for the worse when, seven minutes from half-time, he was dismissed for two bookings.

Despite their numerical advantage, Hibs had to wait until the closing minutes to secure their win. They were awarded a second penalty after Mosta substitute Firas Aboulezz pushed Allan Kardech in the box. Failla's initial shot was pushed away by the excellent Justin Haber but the Hibs wing-back scored from the rebound.

Mosta were then reduced to nine men when Bryan Agius, a late substitute, was shown a straight red card for unsporting behaviour, but the Blues then scored a late consolation goal when Daniel Bogdanovic hit home from the penalty spot after Andrew Cohen was deemed to have handled the ball in the box.
