Paola Hibs Candy are the 2007/08 women's league winners after their straight sets victory over Playvolley Blues last weekend.

The superior Hibs girls won the match 25-12, 25-6, 25-13 to land their fifth successive title. David Bonnici's team were always in the lead and with Carmen Gauci, Alison Borg Hayman and Gertrude Zarb spearheading their charge, the champions never looked back after securing the opening set.

Hibs have already won the Super Cup and reached the semi-finals of the Tony Parnis Cup this season. They will celebrate their championship success this weekend when they play their last match from the Championship Pool against X-Sel.

In the men's league, Marsascala Mapei moved a step closer to winning the championship thanks to their 3-0 victory over Fleur de Lys in their last outing.

Mapei lost Louis Sciriha through injury in the opening set but his replacement, Robert Mifsud, along with Ron Stivala and David Caruana, combined well to set Mapei on their way to victory.

Mapei and Fleur de Lys clash again this weekend in a decisive match for the league title.
