Goals were the order of the day at the Pace Grasso Stadium on Sunday as Birkirkara and champions Hibernians registered emphatic victories over Rabat Ajax and Raiders respectively.

The Stripes, currently leading the standings with 16 points, were in vintage form as they thrashed Rabat Ajax 10-0. Playing against Birkirkara is always a tough proposition but facing them with 10 players makes the task even harder as Rabat, for the second time in six matches, failed to field a full compliment.

As expected, Birkirkara were in a class of their own, taking a four-goal lead during the first half before going on to net six more after the changeover. Catherine Camilleri hit four for the Stripes with the other goals coming from Rebecca D'Agostino (2), Eleonora Agliano (2) and Graziella Vella (2).

Hibernians, who have a game in hand, were also on a rampage as they outclassed Raiders 8-0. They netted all their goals during the first period with the first five scored in the space of 18 minutes.

Dorianne Theuma confirmed her status as the league's top-scorer after hitting a hat-trick to take her overall tally to seven goals. The other goals came from Joanne Vella (2), Sarah Caruana (2) and Tessie Agius.

Leading scorers: D. Theuma (Hibs) - 7 goals; S. Caruana (Hibs), E. Agliano (Birkirkara) - 5 goals; J. Vella (Hibs), C. Camilleri (Birkirkara) - 4 goals.

Next fixtures: Sunday - 9 a.m. Raiders vs Melita; 10.30 a.m. Hibernians vs Mosta.
