Hibernians scored a goal in each half to see off Qormi 2-1 and stretch their lead at the top of the Premier League standings to eight points over nearest rivals Birkirkara.

The Paolites were off to a flying start and they forged ahead after 12 minutes when Joseph Mbong picked Andrew Cohen inside the area and the nippy midfielder quickly set up Luis Edison who stabbed the ball past Qormi goalkeeper Matthew Farrugia.

The Paolites continued to dominate proceedings and on 18 minutes Jorginho hit a firm drive from the edge of the area that was not held by Farrugia but the Qormi defenders quickly cleared.

On the half hour, Jorginho burst into the area and hit a fierce angled drive that rolled across the face off goal with Edison just failing to make contact with the ball from routine distance.

Qormi gave encouraging signs on the restart as on 48 minutes Marcelinho sent a teasing cross into the path of Effiong which was partially cleared by Agius into the path of Duncan Pisani whose low shot was somehow kept out by Bonello.
Four minutes later Cohen embarked on a surging run that took him past three Qormi defenders before hitting a sweet lob with the ball finishing just past the upright.

On 68 minutes later Jorginho almost lit up the game with a wonder strike when the Brazilian showed great ability to connect to Failla’s cross and hit a fierce scissors kick that forced a diving save of Farrugia who managed to keep out the ball with the aid of the upright.

The match was all but settled on 78 minutes when Qormi goalkeeper Farrugia charged out of his goal to meet a long ball towards his area but he clashed with his team-mate Bernsston with Jorginho fully exploiting the situation as the Brazilian quickly created space for himself before depositing the ball into an empty net.

It could have been 3-0 ten minutes from time when Jean Paul Farrugia, who had just replaced Joseph Mbong, hit a fierce low drive that was somehow kept out by goalkeeper Farrugia.

Qormi were handed a lifeline two minutes from time when Agius floored Pisani inside the area and from the spot Effiong despatched his effort past Bonello.
Hibs striker Jorginho was voted as the BOV Player of the match.
