Hibernians and Ħamrun Spartans will be facing each other in the Gozo Cup final which will be played this afternoon at the Gozo Stadium, starting at 5 p.m.

Both the Paolites and the Spartans topped their respective groups with a perfect record after winning their round-robin mat-ches.

In Group A, Hibernians opened up against the Gozo XI and cruised to a comfortable 3-0 win. Matt Clarke, Winston Cosenza and Paul McManus got the goals for Paolites who proved too strong for the hosts.

Next up for Hibs were Premier League leaders Valletta. The game turned out to be evenly balanced with Hibs grabbing the only goal of the 45-minute match on 28 minutes through Taki Abdellilah.

Hibs finished top of Group A with six points three ahead of Valletta. The Citizens placed second after they saw off Gozo XI 1-0. Denni scored the winner for Valletta.

In Group B, Ħamrun Spartans saw off the challenge of Qormi and Floriana to finish top of the standings with maximum points.

The Spartans opened up with a comfortable 2-0 win over Floriana. Dene Shields and Marcelo Perreira were on the mark for the Reds.

In their second match, Ħamrun beat Qormi 1-0 with Perreira again netting the winning goal.

In the other match of the group, Floriana ensured they finished second after they beat Qormi 7-6 on penalties following a 1-1 draw.

Today’s programme of matches at the Gozo Stadium kicks off at 1 p.m. when Gozo XI and Qormi face each other in the play-off for fifth place.

At 3 p.m., fierce rivals Valletta and Floriana will contest the match for third place.
