Last Saturday saw a short limited-overs match played between Grima's XI and Dhandapani's XI. Grima's openers safely negotiated the first 3.5 overs, until Cole and Busuttil-Leaver took their first wickets of the season. Grima (15) and Gauci (18) steadily built a partnership until Hewitt was given the ball... and things changed dramatically.

Hewitt, having taken six wickets in seven overs in his previous match against Kensington CC, continued his unplayable form with another five wickets in four overs. It was left to Kyle (17 not out) and Desmond (14) to put up the only resistance. Grima's XI posted a total of 105 for eight at a shade over 6.5 runs per over.

Dhandapani's XI opening pair replied well as C. Naudi retired on 39 and Busuttil-Leaver, gaining in confidence, hit a quick-fire 25.

Despite this great start, the experienced bowlers then took charge to cut the run-rate back. When Cole (10) fell to a straight one from Sacco, the remaining batters ran out of overs to finish seven runs short of a victory at 100 for four.

Next week sees the start of the busiest period in local cricket when Harrow School return for their annual tour. They will be joined by the seniors from Harrow CC and later in the week by British Shoe CC, both first-timers to Malta.

Annual general meeting

Following the annual general meetings, the committees of the Marsa CC and the Malta Cricket Association remained unchanged with Pierre Naudi staying on as chairman and Mark Sacco secretary.

Melita CC's full membership of the MCA was ratified and their club's representative will be joining the committee shortly. In his report, the chairman welcomed Melita CC and referred to the important year ahead, when Malta will be participating in the 2003 ECC Notts Sport Trophy to be played in Vienna in August.
