The new chairman of the Valletta 2018 Foundation, Jason Micallef, has avoided questions on his absence from cultural events to date. He said that he did not think the moment was right for questions like that, as it detracted from the importance of the press launch of one of V-18's artistic programmes.

Mr Micallef said that he was sure that in future there would be more than ample time to give out information such as this.

Parliamentary Secretary for Culture Jose Herrera said that Mr Micallef’s appointment was carried out in consultation with the Prime Minister.

Asked by timesofmalta.com if the Chairman’s post was a full-time one, Dr Herrera said that for now it was part-time but, eventually, as the work load increased Mr Micallef would assume a full-time post.

Remuneration will then be increased accordingly, said Dr Herrera.

He also said that the new role of the previous Chairman David Felice will be negotiated in the coming days and that Mr Felice had indicated that he wanted to make his services available.

Story Works – an artistic programme to promote the craft of writing will be carried out in conjunction with the University of Southern California in the US.
