Malta will be aiding two institutions in Israel as part of the government's priority to grant development assistance in the Middle East.

The Foreign Affairs Ministry said it was helping Bethlehem University - a Catholic university - to buy several desktop computers, portable LCD projectors and a heavy-duty laser printer to the tune of €12,750. The university is run by the De La Salle Christian Brothers and can trace its roots to 1893.

The ministry will also be assisting the X-ray department at St Louis Hospital in Jerusalem by financing the purchase and installation of a dedicated workstation and related equipment, amounting to €12,224, which covers 80 per cent of the total cost.

The hospital, run by the sisters of St Joseph of the Apparition, is located just outside the New Gate of Jerusalem's Old City, and provides hospice and geriatric care for Jerusalem residents regardless of their race, religion or nationality.

The ministry said that this year it assisted 11 projects in various countries using the available budget of €330,000.
