Helga Ellul, president of the Malta Chamber of Commerce and CEO of Playmobil, has been awarded the German Officers's Cross of the Order of Merit.

The decoration was presented to her by German Ambassador Bernd Braun on behalf of the President of the Federal Republic.

German-born Mrs Ellul has been a resident of Malta for more than three decades. In 1976 she was appointed director Playmobil Malta Ltd. and has held the position for 35 years, turning the company into one of the most successful ones in Malta.

With a current workforce of over 900, Playmobil Malta Ltd. is a major employer on the island.

Besides serving as CEO of Playmobil Malta Ltd and President of the Malta Chamber of Commerce,Enterprise and Industry she is also involved in various activities in the local business community. She was involved in the Employment and Training Corporation, Foundation for Human Resources Development, the Malta Federation of Industry (now part of the MCCEI).

Mrs Ellul is also a governor at the Malta College of Arts, Science and Technology (MCAST) and a member of the board of Malta Enterprise. Very recently she was appointed to the Policy Board at the Office of the Prime Minister.

Ambassador Braun commented that Mrs. Ellul has always stressed education and training in her work. “Theses are areas”, he said, “which are of great importance not only for the further development of Playmobil Malta Ltd, but also for that of Malta”.

The ambassador also underlined the " vital role" she played in developing and strengthening German-Maltese relations.
