The Health Promotion and Disease Prevention Directorate has embarked on a campaign "Kick off with a healthy relationship. Protect yourself use condoms" in relation to the World Cup in Brazil 2014.

The department said in a statement that Maltese nationals travelling to Brazil for the World Cup should be aware that HIV infection in that country was high even more so among female sex workers. Other infections such as chlamydia and syphilis highly  prevalent .

One should be cautious with whom to have sex and assertive enough to say ‘no’. One should also buy quality, non-expired condoms before travelling and store them in a cool and dry place not exposed to high temperatures.
