Health Minister Godfrey Farrugia has held talks in Israel on cooperation in the health sector.
The visit was held in the context of a five year cooperation plan agreed during a visit to Israel by the prime minister late last year.
Dr Farrugia had talks with Israeli Minister of Health K. Yael German on the provision of healthcare and areas in which the Israeli government and Israeli centres of excellence could provide services to Maltese patients in highly specialised treatment not currently available in Malta.
Dr Farrugia also visited the Sharett Institute of Oncology at the Hadassah University Hospital Ein Kerem in Jerusalem; the Rehabilitation Centre in Loewenstein Hospital in Raanana; the Davidoff Oncology Centre at the Rabin Medical Centre – Beilinson Campus in Petah Tikva; and the Rambam Healthcare Campus in Haifa.
The technical discussions focused on post-graduate training in certain specialities; the development of facilities in the run-up to the opening of the new Oncology Centre; enriching the skills set of the healthcare professionals involved in rehabilitation care; technical advice on the establishment of a national emergency preparedness plan; and the provision of specific highly specialised treatment not currently available in Malta.
