Forty-two milk cartons were confiscated by health inspectors yesterday morning after they were left outside a shop in San Ġwann.

The Environmental Health Division said the 24 cartons of whole milk and 18 cartons of skimmed milk were seized because they had reached temperatures of 14°C by the time the shop opened despite regulations they should be constantly kept at temperatures below 8°C.

Legal action will be taken.

Last Sunday, four crates of milk and one container of ricotta were confiscated when they were left outside a grocery in Marsascala.

Another 200 kilograms of ricotta were seized last week because they were being transported in an unrefrigerated truck at temperatures between 13°C and 17°C.

The public is urged to report any irregularities with regard to food safety on 2133 7333 or send an e-mail to complaints.ph@gov.mt.
