I understand John Guillaumier's frustration (The Sunday Times, May 18). I have often been there myself. Maybe I could be of some consolation to him and those who take their faith seriously.

Christ came among us doing good and suffered mercilessly. There was no apparent miracle, no guardian angel and no loving Father to protect him. He must have felt abandoned just like us. However, after three days, the same Christ appeared to the apostles, eating with them and explaining the scriptures.

Finally he gives them the good news that he was going to the Father, to prepare a place for us. And the eternal place is so good that "no ear has ever heard, nor eye seen" what God has prepared for those of us who love Him.

It seems, just like Abraham, we need to be humble and keep on trusting and believing.

Maybe focusing on the joy that awaits us with Christ will help us do just that.
