During a recent meeting of the Malta Handball Association, it was decided that season 2002-3 shall commence on October 12 when two new competitions will be played.

In the Men's Super Cup final, league and knock-out winners Aloysians Prominent will face La Salle Nespak, the league runners-up. The Ladies Super Cup final will be contested by league winners Methode Kavallieri and knock-out conquerors Wild Angels Vitality.

These matches will also mark the start of a new era for Maltese handball since this season, all matches will be played at the University Sports Complex - Malta's first ever full-size international handball court. The next event will be a friendly tournament between all affiliated clubs.

This year, the championship will start towards the end of November as currently, the national team is busily preparing for its participation in the first Malta International Handball Tournament which is due to take place between November 13 and 17.

In fact, the players of the national team are going through an intensive training programme under the guidance of national coach Alan Grima.
