Handball may be a relatively new sport in Malta but it is increasingly gaining in popularity.

The Malta Handball Association recently embarked on a promotional campaign to boost its image and help those interested in pursuing a career in handball.

In a presentation evening, MHA president Louis Borg said handball is attracting a significant number of participants, also thanks to the constant support of the Malta Olympic Committee and the Ministry for Youth and Arts.

PE teachers and affiliated members within the MHA were presented with a number of balls donated by the international federation.

Borg said there was a vigorous commitment from the International Handball Federation and their European counterparts towards the development of the game in Malta.

PE teachers also received documents, produced by the MHA, related to the game and its rules. These will be distributed to school children with the objective of luring as many youngsters as possible to the game.

Meanwhile, those who completed a coaching course, organised by the MHA, were presented with certificates by Malta Sports Council chairman Michael Aquilina. He said sports in Malta is improving and handball is a perfect example of a new organisation that has attained reasonable heights in a few years.

Aquilina augured success to the MHA for its forthcoming events, particularly the EHF Challenge Trophy which will be played at the University Sports Complex in December.
