A statue of Dun Gorg Preca is to be unveiled on Thursday at Hamrun St Gaetan Parish Church, where he served for many years.

The statue will be unveiled and blessed in a ceremony led by Archbishop Mgr Paul Cremona.

It will be placed on the same spot where Dun Gorg used to spend hours hearing confession.

The bronze statue was made in Caggiati, Parma. It is the work of sculpture Gianni Bonnici.

Hamrun Parish Priest Henry Balzan thanked all benefactors. He said that while Dun Gorg did not wish for monuments, and did not need them, the people of Hamrun wished to show their gratitude for his service and wanted to recall him for ever.

Dun Gorg founded the Society of Christian Doctrine (MUSEUM) in the pre-war years. He died in 1962 and was canonised in June 2007 by Pope Benedict.
