The one-hour strike at the San Gorg Preca Boys Secondary School in Hamrun this morning was a success, the Malta Union of Teachers said.

All teaching grades at the school were ordered by the union to report for work one hour late today because of continuous disruptions, threats and serious misbehaviour from individuals or groups of students.

The union said its directive was followed by over 99 per cent of educators working at the school.

It also observed that, on its insistence, CCTV cameras and an intercom were being installed at the school.

The union said that a reconciliation meeting was planned to the held with the authorities on Tuesday.

No further directives were being issued until then, the MUT said.

Meanwhile, the Union Haddiema Maghqudin said that it ordered clerical workers in the Education Department not to do any work other than their duties.

It said this was because it had received several claims the workers were being requested to carry out duties which werebeyond their grade and for which they were not paid.
