The traditional ‘church run’ with the San Cajetan statue on festa day in Ħamrun will continue to be held, it has been decided.

Festa aficionados were outraged last year by calls for the run to stop after the 130-year-old statue nearly came crashing to the ground during the final run to the parish church.

The feast takes place in the first half of August.

Talks were undertaken between the Church authorities and the Ħamrun festa organisers in the wake of the incident and it was decided that the time-honoured practice should stay, sources said.
