Hibernians 3 Hamrun 4

An incredible late comeback could not save 10-man Hibernians from a defeat by Hamrun Spartans at the National Stadium.

The final 15 minutes in which Hibernians scored three goals were as sensational as the opening period that resulted in Hamrun going 3-0 up. Unfortunately for Hibernians, they were a man down by that stage and conceded a fourth goal just after half-time – a deficit too much for Mark Miller’s side to claw back.

Marcelo Pereira gave Hamrun the lead after 20 minutes when Ryan Fenech showed terrific vision to pick out Bonnici’s run from deep and the defender’s low ball across the box was gleefully turn in by the Brazilian. Peter Anizoba Chizoba made it 2-0 with just 32 minutes on the clock, when Ryan Fenech found an unmarked Nigerian in the box as he coolly headed in. The towering striker added the third with a well-place shot from the edge of the box two minutes from the break as Gaetan Spiteri poked in the fourth just after the interval.

Then the Paolities took over. First McManus produced a beautiful floating lob over Muscat after 72 minutes. Few moments later, Jean Paul Farrugia’s header revived his side’s hopes as he got to Andrew Cohen’s free-kick before Vukanic. The final two minutes Andrew Coehn scored from the spot.
