Gymstars Gymnastics Club recently played host to an international array of athletes from 12 clubs hailing from England, Germany, Slovenia, Spain, Netherlands, Belgium and Sweden for a girls' artistic competition at their base in Tarxien.

The foreigners were of a different level, very strong and dominated in a good number of categories. But, Gymstars still delivered the goods with creditable showings by their young performers who continue to show promise.

Five of the local gymnasts won medals with others coming very close to a podium place, confirming the progress achieved, a huge credit to the athletes themselves and their dedicated coaches.

English club Sapphire had the biggest contingent.

They scooped a bagful of medals and were present in finals in almost all categories. Sapphire dominated the final standings with a total of 32 medals.
