The GWU has welcomed the EU grant of €700,000 to be used to help the workers dismissed from textile factories last year.

The grant was given the final green light by the European Parliament on Thursday.

The union recalled that as soon as the dismissals were announced, it had urged the government to seek EU help through the European Globalisation Adjustment Fund since these workers had lost their job because of globalisation.

The union thanked all five Maltese MEPs for having helped make this grant possible.
