The General Workers’ Union has warned of industrial action across various sections at Enemalta Corporation unless the “ambiguous and unjust” situation at the credit control section was resolved by tonight.
The workers in the credit control section had been given nothing to do for over a year while their work was being done by other employees working on overtime, the union said.
It suspected the organisation was trying to get rid of the workers in question. The matter had been repeatedly discussed with the management and the Finance Minister but the opposite of what was being agreed to was done.
The union said it could not understand how, according to the minister, the corporation risked not having enough money to pay its workers but then had the funds to pay performance bonuses of between 12 and 15 per cent to members of the management. These included people who were mistreating its members, the GWU said.
