The General Workers Union has filed two libel suits against PN newspaper in-Nazzjon after it ran several articles alleging that Untours Insurance Agency Ltd has been declared bankrupt.

The GWU is holding the newspaper responsible for damages suffered as a result of the allegations.

The GWU said that an agreement signed in the past days will see MAPFRE Middlesea taking over from Qatar Insurance (QICI) as majority shareholder. Untours will now be in a position to offer a wider service to its clients.

The agreement between UIA and MAPFRE Middlesea was approved by the Malta Financial Services Authority and a licence was issued.

The GWU said that the articles published by in-Nazzjon were defamatory.
