The GWU has protested to PBS over the manner of appointment of the news manager, saying normal practice had not been followed.

The union's services section said that even for managerial grades, it was common practice for transparent procedures to be followed, and this post should have first been offered to existing PBS staff. The procedure that had been followed this time had caused disgruntlement among the workers, the union said.
