The GWU said today that it had registered an industrial dispute with ST Microelectronics after the chipmaker failed to pay the workers increases to salaries and a bonus which were agreed in a 2006 collective agreement.

The increases were due on April 1.

The union warned that if the company persisted in its failure, it would take the necessary action to safeguard the interests of the workers.

The union has also written to the Minister of Finance and the Director of Employment and Industrial Relations, seeking a conciliation meeting.
