The Malta Union of Bank Employees (MUBE) said today that it was going to court after Bank of Valletta granted sole recognition to the General Workers' union.
The GWU said earlier that it was informed of sole recognition by letter from BOV chairman John Cassar White.
The clerical and managerial grades were formerly represented by the Malta Union of Bank Employees (MUBE)
The GWU said that over the past months, hundreds of BOV employees changed their affiliation and joined it..
The MUBE said it strongly condemned BOV’s action since there was a pending case at the Industrial Tribunal due to be heard today. Furthermore, no official verification by the Director of Employment and Industrial Relations had taken place.
"This is the first time that the company has taken such a dangerous step which bodes ill to good industrial relations in a democratic country," the MUBE said, adding that it would take the bank to court to annul its 'illegal' action.
It said the First Hall of the Civil Court has provisionally upheld its request for BOV not to conduct Collective Agreement negotiations with the GWU
