The General Workers’ Union has given Malta Public Transport a 48-hour ultimatum to accept its requests or else resort to action.

The union has demanded an increase in wages, a minimum 30-minute break every six hours, a fixed day off and new shifts. It is also asking for written guarantees.

In a statement this afternoon, the union said that unless this was done, it would have no other option but to take action to safeguard the interests of its members.

It made it clear that in spite of the discussions in the past days, the management was continuing to insist on the working hours it had proposed in the past days and was not guaranteeing workers a 30-minute break after six hours of work.
