The GWU’s Maritime and Aviation section has presented a judicial letter in the first hall of the civil court to stop the Maritime Authority from subcontracting work to people not licensed to carry out port work.

The union said it had been insisting on the need for more port workers for months. But the MMA insisted that wne more people were required, it would get Terminal Operator employees to do the work.

This, the union said, was against European guidelines.
