The GWU has called on the government to revise its decision on the power station extension because, it said, it was detrimental to the people's health and the environment.

The union said the government had challenged public opinion by opting for equipment for the power station extension which would generate tons of dangerous waste to the detriment of workers and residents of the south of Malta.

The people, the union said, paid their taxes in order to live better, not worse. The authorities, therefore, needed to ensure that their decisions would have a positive impact on the people's health and on the environment.

Economic development should benefit the people, and not just economic numbers.

The union said it was calling on the government to revise the decision it took on the power station extension so as to ensure that the people's health and the environment were not harmed.
