The Health and Safety Institute of the General Workers' Union has expressed its regret at yesterday's occupational accident in which a young worker lost his life when he was crushed by marble.
The institute said that although the number of fatal accidents had dropped, it was worried that they still took place. It asked whether the time had come to update occupational health and safety regulations.
It insisted that measures which could be implemented to reduce dangers should be identified. The institute also noted that fatal traffic accidents were increasing. It called for more discipline in driving and said that measures to make Malta's roads safer should be implemented.
