The entire administration of the GWU will be uncontested during the forthcoming Congress set for October 3 and 4, General Secretary Tony Zarb said this morning.

He confirmed that he intends to retire in two years' time, when he would have reached retirement age. That would be half-way through the term.

Mr Zarb was speaking at educafe, a monthly union social activity.

He said the congress would be the highlight of the union's 70th anniversary celebrations.

Other activities will include a feast with varied activities for children and adults outside the union's offices all day this Saturday and Sunday.

Mr Zarb spoke on the union's campaign against workers being employed in abusive, precarious conditions and said the union had not been proved wrong in any of the cases it raised.

He said the latest practice was for some companied to dismiss workers and then engage them illegally.
